Aklugers,

So when I bought a new 1.5 TB external harddrive and I am unable to put
files on there, I knew from past experience that I'm not allowed to ask
what to do without researching the problem myself ....so I did the
research and found the answers but I don't understand what they are
talking about because it's not detailed enough......so, I'll do what I've
done in the past and hire a guy by the hour to explain a couple of simple
things about how Linux works with things such as external harddrives and
why I'm being denied access. He/she will furnish the answers, I'll pay the
money and we both go away happy.

There's a very big gap out there between the experts and the newcomers to
Linux. Most of the newcomers are GUI oriented and all of the experts are
CLI oriented. Do the math.......One of the AKLUGERS told me once that
almost everything that is done with the CLI can be done with the GUI also.

I have learned an awful lot about Linux over the last 8 or 9 years but
still consider myself to be a newbie 'cause I don't want to become an
expert, I just want my computer to work and do the things I want it to do
everyday and that's just what I've got. I'm happy with my systems (5) and
home network (1).....l still read mailing lists and try to learn something
new every day but I will never become a CLI expert.

The other day at work, one of my coworkers told me he tried to install
Linux because Windows was giving him such a bad experience.........He
tried the install and got stuck when it asked him for a user password that
he failed to configure earlier. He quit right there and reinstalled
Windows. Damiens list suggested installations would be something the
experts could teach.......and on and on and on........

My $.10 worth,
