yup. My first experiences with XP almost two years ago convinced me it
was time to get out of the microsoft business. We are now forced to use
it at work and I have seen nothing that causes me to change my mind.
But what's worse is the rest of the winduhs software, particularly
symantec stuff.=20=20
First, they finally fubar'ed ghost enough to make it practically
unusable. (ghost 9, I think)
I have one remaining client that using Win2K. Time came to update the
virus protection on their network, so I got the corporate/small business
edition to make the updating process easier.
Not.
Well over 30 hours later (on my own time, I might add), I finally got it
to work, no thanks to their instructions, documentation, (offshore) tech
support, or web site. Not to mention how incompetent I was looking to
the client.
Finally, just this last week, came time to put a firewall on their (one)
internet computer (the boss's) (a dial-up). Against my better
judgement, I picked up Symantec Internet Security at CompUSA.
Not only did it not work, it won't unintall, and it broke the antivirus
that I worked on above.=20=20
This time though, I spent maybe 2-1/2 hours on it before effing it.=20
Learned something of a lesson last time.
Of course, I took it back to CompUSA for a refund. And of course the
smug b-stards refused. And told me three times it was my own fault.=20
Uh-uh. Not buying that. Not one bit.
Yes, I know about the 'open software' refusal. But within three hours
of purchase?? Along with full documentation that the damn thing is
broke??=20=20
Needless to say CompUSA Anchorage will no longer be getting any of my
money, or at least as long as a certain Mr. Loutzenheiser is still in
charge there. Which is probably just fine with them. I have drafted a
letter to that effect that is going to Symantec, CompUSA corporate, and
the Better Business Bureau.
And needless to say, I discourage anyone from doing business with them.=20
Instead, I suggest mail order works better and gives better variety.=20
I've had good luck with Newegg.
No more Symantec either. Screw me once, shame on them. Screw me twice,
shame on me. Ain't gonna be a third time.
OK, I'm vented now. Thanks for listening.
