The last time I saw errors like that, the 2.2.x kernel series had a problem in
their IDE drivers with certain IBM hard drives.

My guess is either another, similar problem has cropped up, or your drive is
dying.

Do you have a different drive you can try out with the box? Maybe try the
drive with an older/differrent kernel?
