Python uses Perlish regexes, doesn't it? Try the perlre(1) man page. It has
a thorough explanation plus lots of good examples. POSIX regex info (but
somewhat superficial) can be found in the regex(7) man page. Outside of
those, the best resource for regexes is O'Reilly's Mastering Regular
Expressions.
