You may want to join the samba mailing list. There are several users
who give advice on this type of Samba config. I have done the samba3
with Active Directory authentication. It's slick!

I've been advised that you should have a good grip on Openldap before
you try to configure samba to use it as a backend.

I do understand the concepts so if you have additional questions I can
