Petezilla-

We have several boxes here running various levels of RH. Recently (7.3 or so) RH
started coming with both lprng and cups (common unix printing system)
CUPS was supposed to make life easier with linux <---> printing.

After dinking around with both for a variety of printers and linux boxes, would
have to say that NEITHER one of this printing systems works as advertised. Cups
has a nice web interface which, when it works, is real handy. My setup at
home with a network printer and an epson photoprinter works well with one RH
8.0/CUPS box and not at all with the other. Here at work we generally use CUPS
but have to struggle with it every time we get a new box or do a serious
upgrade. CUPS seems to work and play better with gimp, if that is of interest.
CUPS is also easier with a brand-new box, but seems to have trouble adjusting to
a modified environment once it is set up.

My guess is that it is not an issue with distro's but with lprng/cups. Hope it
goes well 4 you, what ever route it goes. Neither one is user friendly IMHO.
