Actually, I did add the / in front of etc when I issued the tar command,
but I noticed as things were scrolling by on the console that there were
messages stating something like 'stripping / from directories' or
somesuch. I've given up on tar for now, it might be working as I haven't
tried to restore yet, but am now trying out afio. I just did a complete
backup and it ended with an error which I think may be because the
backup might actually exceed 40 gigs. Hard to believe as there's only a
few of us using it, but will have to investigate Monday. Last thing it
said was broken pipe. I wrote it all down. I may have to try compression
next time.
Cheers, JD
