In a modularized kernel, pretty much the standard these days. This is
where Linux expects to get its information on what modules to load and
why (scsi_hostadapter, eth(x), etc). The load parameters (io addresses,
irqs, etc) for those modules and in some cases, the order in which those
modules are to be loaded.
