Actually there _are_ drivers for the Hollywood+ card, as well as the
(somewhat?) related Creative DXR3 card. I personally own and operate a
DXR3, and it works nicely, although the legal implications of the CSS code
used to play encrypted DVDs (almost all of them) are still fuzzy (short
story is, you're very likely breaking the law by using it... I consider it
civil disobedience..). The drivers for these cards are fairly stable.. my
dxr3 handles s-video as well as pass-through video output, which frankly
astonishes me.

In any case, you will probablly want to take a look at 'xine' (which is
what I use to play DVDs), and possibly 'mplayer' (I don't recall if
mplayer supports dvds yet or not, but is a nice media app without xine's
overhead.. realy nice for opendivx avis and the like ). The setup for
either one to use encrypted DVDs is likely going to involve some
finagling.. it did for me, but once it works, it keeps working. =)
