Hit I before you go into interactive mode, then just don't start eth0.
That will work, after than remove the "Start on Boot" line in
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifc-eth0. It's not quite start on boot,
but you'll see it.

Running 7.2, without my cable modem connection. When I
try to boot up the start series runs fine and it goes
through all the 'starting this, starting that' lines
with the 'ok' next to it, and then it gets to
'starting eth0' and it just hangs.......flashing
sursor....nothing else. I can't boot!

I'm at a place (Bethel) where I don't have cable
access so i have to try and use a phone connection and
set up ppp. But I have to get booted up before I can
do anything......any help? Thanx in advance...

In the beginning there was data. The data was without form and
null, and darkness was upon the face of the console; and the Spirit of
IBM was moving over the face of the market. And DEC said, "Let there
be registers"; and there were registers. And DEC saw that they
carried; and DEC separated the data from the instructions. DEC called
the data Stack, and the instructions they called Code. And there was
evening and there was morning, one interrupt.
