I'm down in Juneau, but have a friend that just wrote that his XP takes
an hour to boot up because of all the antivirus and anti-malware junk on
it. His son (also here in Juneau) told him to use Linux. He asked me
how you get it. I wrote him a quick reply, but he's probably not going
to be able to install it himself.
I asked if he had any Windows programs he can't live w/o, explained that
Linux doesn't run Windows programs as a rule (didn't mention Wine) and
that it works differently so there is some learning to be done.
Anyway, long story short, I told him I'd write the AKLUG and see if
there's anybody in the Homer area that might be willing to help a poor
soul better them self, and shake off the shackles of bondage from
Redmond. <g>
