I started with 7.15.
I have done many installs on both my domain host and my own work
station and the only time I ran into trouble was when I chose
sqlite as the db and got PDO errors from PHP. Wipe and restart
solved it. I wonder if that lengthy topic got the attention of the
main dev crew and was corrected without comment.
The unfortunate thing about drupal is the core language. And
despite the fact that Lerdorf (original developer) was dumber than
a bag of rocks, did a lousy imitation of an ironic hipster and
couldn't say no to any feature request from the user base (many of
which, I suspect had no experience with another PL) certain things
got done right. I.E. mod PHP as an apache default, drupal installs
on hostmonster with two clicks
Just try that with django or django-cms... (which is next on my
agenda...), but there you have core language developed by folks
who really know how to engineer.
