My vote probably doesn't weigh much, but I think that is a great idea.
Currently we can't FIX THE LISTSERVER because we don't own it and we
don't have any real system level access to it or the software that
runs it.

I think, though, that proper archive support can't be an optional or
get-around-to-it feature. At present, AKLUG archives are not only
indexed by the search engines, but are mirrored across two or three
different Web sites (like consortiumlibrary.org). That is a valuable
contribution to the FOSS community which we don't want to break.
