Dear Cermudgeon,

Root your phone. Install OpenSSH server (QuickSSH works well). Use the dynamic socks
proxy feature for an SSH connection into your phone. Enable USB Debuggging mode, use ADP
to port forward local port 2222 to usb plugged device 22.

Or.. just install a new rom that isn't crippled.
