:-) True, we're still better off, but for how long? And can you claim with
100% confidence that Linux in general is better off than it was 5/10 years
ago?

The premise of my diatribe is simple: as the desktop folks chase eye candy,
gee-whiz feature creep, and endless integration, they're forsaking the
fundamental design principles that made UNIX a robust and compelling
platform in the first place. I don't see things getting better, they're
getting worse. My $0.02.
