Indeed it will... re's have been the source of many an hour spent
scratching my head and wondering at the absurdity of the universe. ;)

Among the other suggestions (if you're working on a linux/BSD box),
check out the following man pages.

man re_format
man grep (see section on regular expressions)

The grep page in particular gives some good info (checked FreeBSD, Mac
OSX, and Debian testing) which, although succinct, should get you
started.
