[aklug] PVR with HDMI in -- linux or prefab?

Gefen makes a PVR (with an absurdly tiny hard drive) that supports HDMI in:

I see it available for $662. Is it worth it, or should I build
something with a tiny PC and a Black Magic Intensity Pro card (~$200)?
Suggestions on linux PVR software? I'm looking for something that can
record AVCHD; perhaps I'm barking up the wrong tree.

There's a portable (and expensive) recorder from Aja,

that can record ProRes, which is just kicking, but I'm fairly sure I
can't do that with Linux. Would love to be proved wrong.
