For me, as a conservative (though I think liberals should appreciate
this as well), the issue of privacy ultimately becomes an issue of
independence and control. Even though I might not have anything big to
hide, nevertheless the more access someone has to the intimate details
of my life, the easier it is for them to manipulate or influence my life
if they might choose to do so. Knowledge is power, right?

Bultman mentioned encryption keys... I've pondered the same thing
myself. I think I can say that I wouldn't willingly give up my keys. In
my mind it isn't about showing them my data or not showing them my data
(nothing illegal on my hard drive), but it is about the right to protect
data in such a way that I control who has access to it.

Oh, and I hate free e-mail/hosting services also. I'd also prefer to do
everything on my own hardware, but because of present circumstances I
need an off site hosting service.
