FWIW, I switched to Sun's VirtualBox (open-source edition) a few months ago
and haven't looked back. So far, with two separate installations running a
Windows 7 guest on top of an Ubuntu 9.04 host, I have not had a similar
keyboard issue. Of course, that isn't the only reason I switched, but I do
highly recommend VirtualBox in any case. You can even migrate VMware images
to it, though I have not bothered to try:
