I find it annoying the way the screen geometry is setup; I too have lost my
mouse a few times switching to attached screens.
I typically center align the screens and keep that in mind; helps to resolve
any problems.
To take it up a notch, If you have multiple systems near one another, on the
same network, check out Synergy; use the same keyboard and mouse across
multiple systems, monitors, etc, without a KVM.
