There's no need for an icecast server. Just do them as a podcast. The quick way to do this is with WordPress.

1. Install WordPress
2. Install a cool theme
3. Install the podcast plugin - don't remember what it is

You can also create an RSS feed within WordPress. This allows one to subscribe to the podcast using software like Amarok. You could also use iTunes if you happen to have something other then Linux. Why you would want that is another matter.

Hope this info helps.

Subject: [aklug] Icecast server

I'm building a web server and will have some large audio files on it
(sermons from church). Not sure of the size, but I expect they're each
in the area of 20-45 mb. We could just put them up for download, but
when we were on a host some time back you had the option of pulling down
an mp3 or listening to an stream. I think it was real-audio.
Unfortunately, that hosting service is no longer around. (No,it wasn't
McColo! <g>)

I'd like to do the same on the new server, but use open source tools.
Icecast sounds like it may suit the bill. These won't be "live" feeds.

What pieces do I need to accomplish this?

I'd like to stream ogg-vorbis, but don't want to limit my audience. Can
most mainstream (i.e. Windows) play that w/o issue or would users have
to download winamp or something? It's easy enough to create the files
in .mp3 format, but I'm not sure of the legal issues there. They would
likely be created on a Windows or Mac so maybe the license is a
non-issue. I know this is the wrong place to ask for legal advice, but
maybe some of you have looked into it before and can offer some general
guidence.

Thanks...

...Kevin
