I think updates would be the easy part.=20

cron-apt can schedule updates, and pointing them at a proxy server with
a large cache size can reduce bandwidth.

Using cron-apt together with a locally controlled mirror, so that
updates only appear after ASD staff has vetted them would be even
better.

I am *very* interested in how they manage desktops. I'd love to talk to
someone who manages more than a thousand Linux desktops with all of the
account management, desktop settings, policy settings, etc. In my
experience there really isn't an AD for Linux so their solution really
interests me.

Sadly, I don't get to Anchorage often and I don't think ASD staff spend
much time in Juneau. :(

Denise, I get the feeling that this wasn't really a "public" project,
just something that escaped onto the mailing list. Is there a web page
or something that describes it? I Googled and the best I could come up
