[aklug] Video editing

I'm staarting to think about getting a new machine sometime next year.
The main reason for the computer is going to be video editing.

I know of a few programs that do this sort of thing, avidmux, kino,
cinelerra and I was wondering if anyone is currently doing video
editing.

If so, would you be willing to share your experiences and suggest
hardware for this process?
