Well it it hadn't locked up I would have. Now that I have SUSE installed, I'll get what I need with that distro.

  Typically with most graphical installers, all the generic command line
  stuff is being sent to another virtual terminal. So you might want to
  CTRL-ALT-F<number> to check what is being installed at that time.
