Was getting a bit late there, and I feel I could have been more help.
There was a fellow there, and he was interested in learning C/C++
under Linux. If you are on the list this is for you, if not, then
maybe someone who knows him can forward this along.

Searches along the lines of "linux c++ tutorial" yielded better
results than the direction we were trying last night. Good luck!
