It's a server board.

You're right, 99.99% of the time, it doesn't need to be paired, but
trust me, this does (it says so in the manual, and it beeps crazily if
you put in non-pairs).

I've got two sticks in already for a total of 512, and they are an exact
pair. Anything less would result in beep codes.
