Dear Founding Father,

CUPS always drove me nuts until I came to the understanding that I had
to have the absolutely correct ppd. Then the next understanding, which
is incomplete to this day, is the printer set up address. I have set up
one USB printer, and I don't remember too well the problems. I don't
know what is magic about USB. Some things work, other things don't.

On my system when I add a printer using the web interface (localhost:631
logging in as root with root's password) and I come to the connection
drop down, I notice there are now 16 USB printers to choose from.

On the system on which I setup the USB printer I made sure the printer
was connected and turned on before booting the computer. It was the only
USB device connected. I think I must have chosen USB#1. In any case,
having the HP special driver for the low cost inkjet, do everything
printer must have helped, because the printer was right there to select
when choosing the printer in CUPS. I must have guessed correctly when
choosing USB#1.
