Build your own box...

I just posted something similar to uCLinux. Kinda long winded, here are
the cliff notes:
"blah blah blah, 80s called they want their mac plus back, blah blahblah"

Okay, here is the meat:

My goal now is to use the framework of the mac plus and make a computer
kit. No disk drive, 2 IDE busses, ethernet, two serial ports, a bit mapped
1 bit 640x480 VGA display, keyboard, mouse. 16MHz 68HC000. All parts are
through hole .1 spaced. Anyone with a blunt tipped radio shack soldering
could build it.
Am I crazy? I talked to someone today and he thought I was crazy. I look at
it from the view that the user actually has the chance to completely
understand every piece of the computer, and with a little study, know
exactly what digital happenings are going on at any given time.

I like building kits. Broadcasting on FM without a license is illegal in
the US. But that didn't keep me from buying a veronica PLL kit and
assembling it. If I bought the uCSimm right now and had it in my hand, I
have no projects to use it in. So I'd just stare at it, maybe compile worms
for it. (the game). Think of all the joy you'd have spending hours placing
and soldering components. ;)

Anyway, give me an idea. Am I lonely with the idea of a computer anyone
with an iron, maybe even a gun, could build? One that runs uCLinux, has a
few hard drives, and goes on the net? bitmapped display's stink, but
they'll be all right for pine and lynx. ;)

Flame suit on (I can only find 10B-T ethernet devices in PLCC, but its not
like that 16MHz 68HC000 is going anywhere quick... :P )

Grant

P.S. So far I've introduced a goblin into one motherboard and fried a disk
drive. But I did replace the 64pin 68000 from 83 with a 68pin PLCC 68HC000
from '05. :) Still boots like new. ;)

You can view the rest of the info on the forum if you're interested. I'm
behind on info and pictures, but for just 3 days and one guy there is a lot
of info there. ;) Do me a favor and sign up for an account. I feel like I'm
talking to myself in there. I can tell people are visiting, but no one
speaks!!! :(
