Check out MPlayer, it is what I use to watch .wmv .asf .rm .mpg .avi .mov.
I can also rip DVD's using the mencoder function and it is what powers the
freevo pvr project. Very nice and easy to use, you can even use a gui that
looks just like windows media player.
