I have to chime in here and vouch for XFCE3 and XFCE4

After 9-10 years of Linux use and still using 6-8 different
WM'ers from time to time, I always return to it for maximum effeciency,
ease of configuration, low resource usage, non-M$ looking interface....
Its default file-manager xffwm or xftree is also decent though I often
incorporate Rox which "rocks"....
(Surprised no one mention WindowMaker yet?)
