Subject: quick BIND question

Is it normal for my BIND server to return a list of the root servers when I do a dig lookup?
example:
pasteur-akghetto-com:~ sjohnson$ dig www.gci.net
; <<>> DiG 9.2.2 <<>> www.gci.net
;; global options: printcmd

(it doesn't matter the host I look up - I just used www.gci.net as an example)
Is it normal for the root servers to get returned for the "authoritive" response? If not, how
do I fix this?
Thanks.
Scott
