A lot of issues with Vmware are due to kernel source and modules not
matching..perfectly.I haven't used Gentoo so I don't know how or where
it puts things. I use the path '/usr/src/linux/include' during the
install though I have heard (conflicting) opinions on the path you used.

Sometimes if the 'hostonly or NAT' doesn't start the not_configured
message appears. Look in 'var/log/*', this is from the vmware news
groups. another good source of help. Vmware runs it own news server,
news.vmware.com, though google probably picks it up.

vmware.for-linux.configuration
vmware.for-linux.general
