Well, whatdya know... I upgraded to the latest stable cups (1.1.19) and
the latest _devel_ gimp-print drivers (4.3.20) instead of the stable
drivers and it works just fine now, both from OpenOffice.org and from
the command line 'lpr'.
I'm not sure what fixed it - the new cups or the new drivers or both -
because I couldn't get the 4.2.x gimp-print drivers to work with cups
1.1.19, so I had to use the development drivers. <shrug>
