Hello all-

First of all, thanx to those of you that helped me get my uaa/ppp routing
problem solved. Now, I have another issue.
I have a RH 8 box at home which I connect via ppp occasionally to the UAA modem
pool. I sometimes use this route for sending mail (thought of course, the return
address does not work, typically)

Below is the output to /var/log/maillog for a successful send:

Mar 20 13:07:40 iliamna sendmail[3898]: h2KM7bk9003898: from=olsson, size=69, cl
ass=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<200303202207.h2KM7bk9003898@iliamna.uaa.alaska.edu>, rel
ay=olsson@localhost
Mar 20 13:07:42 iliamna sendmail[3901]: h2KM7fqc003901: from=<olsson@iliamna.uaa
.alaska.edu>, size=396, class=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<200303202207.h2KM7bk9003898@il
iamna.uaa.alaska.edu>, proto=ESMTP, daemon=MTA, relay=localhost [127.0.0.1]
Mar 20 13:07:43 iliamna sendmail[3898]: h2KM7bk9003898: to=olsson@aeff.uaa.alask
a.edu, ctladdr=olsson (502/100), delay=00:00:06, xdelay=00:00:03, mailer=relay,
pri=30054, relay=localhost.uaa.alaska.edu. [127.0.0.1], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (h2
KM7fqc003901 Message accepted for delivery)
Mar 20 13:08:02 iliamna sendmail[3903]: h2KM7fqc003901: to=<olsson@koyukuk.at.ua
a.alaska.edu>, ctladdr=<olsson@iliamna.uaa.alaska.edu> (502/100), delay=00:00:20
, xdelay=00:00:19, mailer=esmtp, pri=30381, relay=koyukuk.at.uaa.alaska.edu. [13
7.229.188.38], dsn=2.0.0, stat=Sent (h2KM9gln020180 Message accepted for deliver
y)

If I add the line in my /etc/hosts.deny file:

ALL:ALL

 I can't send mail out anymore. I get the following in /var/log/maillog:

Mar 20 13:08:28 iliamna sendmail[3916]: h2KM8QnD003916: from=olsson, size=69, cl
ass=0, nrcpts=1, msgid=<200303202208.h2KM8QnD003916@iliamna.uaa.alaska.edu>, rel
ay=olsson@localhost
Mar 20 13:08:30 iliamna sendmail[3918]: h2KM8Uqc003918: tcpwrappers (localhost,
127.0.0.1) rejection
Mar 20 13:08:30 iliamna sendmail[3916]: h2KM8QnD003916: to=olsson@aeff.uaa.alask
a.edu, ctladdr=olsson (502/100), delay=00:00:04, xdelay=00:00:01, mailer=relay,
pri=30054, relay=localhost.uaa.alaska.edu. [127.0.0.1], dsn=5.0.0, stat=Service
unavailable

While the above suggests a tcpwrappers configuration issue, i.e. I need some
entry in /etc/hosts.allow, my guess is that this might rather be a sendmail
configuration issue. It is like my mail is being relayed through localhost. In
fact, I think that even users cannot mail each other on the same machine.

Can anyone shend any light (or heat) on this issue?
