Pardon me for not answering the question :), but do you need
either one? If you're on a protected local network, then security
isn't a big concern, so ssh is superfluous (unless, of course, there
are other users on the LAN you don't want to see your X session).
VNC is a bandwidth hog.

It's pretty simple to use X's innate ability to display a program's
output on a remote computer. This is what I've done for most of
the years since I started using Linux.
