You don't need the 2.4 kernel to get linux-wlan-ng running. If you check
the documentation, people have it running on kernels as old as 2.2.13. I
am using it on RH 7.0 w/ kernel 2.2.22 & pcmcia-cs 3.2.3.

BTW - If you use RH's 2.2.22 kernel, last I knew their accompanying
pcmcia rpm was broken. I used the source from
http://pcmcia-cs.sourceforge.net, and just followed the instructions
there.
