These problems are easily handled by having samba enforce ownership and
privileges for share directories.

I must point out that with both Win98 & WinXP Home you're only serving up a
peer-to-peer network, since neither can be full domain members, though. If I
were you I'd push for W2K Workstation on all the desktops w/Samba as the PDC,
which would at least provide some level of security on the network.
