My son-in-law lives in the Tucson/Phoenix area of Arizona (prior Intel
employee). He gave me a nice tour not too long ago. High school grads are
starting out at $45K and most professionals can walk off the street into
$65K. It's my understanding that the Boston area is similar. I personally
would not want to live in any of these cities but if a person wanted to
chase money...

Regarding the lack of tech jobs... I believe the locations (Anchorage =
and SF) are the issue, not the lack of open positions....=20

No?

Well, I've been in San Francisco for about a month now. All I can say is
that the computer industry is just as bad here as it is in Anchorage.

I e-mailed the bay area lug to see what they had to say about the San
Francisco job market and they told me that for every one computer job
there are 200 people applying. What makes it even harder to get a
computer job is that no one wants to talk to you. Everything is done by
email.

Most of the jobs I've seen so far have been for programmers and database
administrators. The largest number of computer jobs still falls under
the Windows category. Altho there were a few that required a background
in both Windows and Linux. If you are looking for a Linux/Unix job good
luck. Most of those were for programmers and database administrators.
Jobs for network and system administration are hard to find.

I called up just about every employment agency that had anything to do
with technology. They either told me that they had nothing to a few jobs
or that their tech department had been closed.

I tried calling computer consulting companies. It seams that most of
them are one man operations. My guess is that these people couldn't find
a tech job and started there own consulting business.

Before I left I had sent out a couple of applications. I'm trying to
find out if those positions are still available.I may be moving back a
lot sooner then I thought.

If you are thinking about moving to find work good luck.
