Thank you very much Wesley Brown for this site. I have a D-Link
DWL-650+ PCMCIA card for my laptop also. I had given up looking for
a suitable driver. I was hanging on to the "Laptop Networking Kit" I
bought from COSTCO because it was such a good deal. It is still in
the plastic thing because Damien Hull has the same thing and has it
working under Windows but couldn't find drivers for Linux or BSD. I
figured I would hang on to the "Kit" until someone came out with a
driver. I have not downloaded anything yet, but this site looks as
if it is my best bet to date.

The wireless card is just another nic as far as the o/s is
concerned. Therefore, each needs its own IRQ and I/O address when
both are installed. I have a Linksys EC2T Combo PCMCIA Ethernet card
and a Linksys WPC11 ver. 3 "Instant Wireless" Network PC Card. I
found I cannot have both in my laptop (Sony Vaio PCG F250) at the
same time because of IRQ and I/O conflict. There may be a solution,
but I have not pursued one because I have many other things to do
and I will just have to suffer with only one connection to the LAN
at a time (when I get the wireless part working).

<gratuitous comment>I don't know how VMware handles the interface to
the hardware, but I understand you are running VMware on WXP. I have
heard running VMware on Linux works better. </gratuitous comment>

In my experience, no. The pcmcia_core module and friends recognizes
the WPC11 hardware (IRQ, I/O, and other stuff). To the hardware, it
is just another nic, so I can set the IPA with ifconfig. The problem
is the driver for the radio tranceiver (which is much like the
Ethernet tranceiver which transmits and receives in the "base"band
~0 to 20MHz). It appears that the WAP11 ver. 2.2 uses the same chip
radio tranceiver as our D-Link-650Plus. So, it is "roll-yer-own"
time to make the hardware do what it is designed to do.

Cheerio! fgd.
