Thanks. It turned out to be that the controller wasn't installed from
Gnome 1.x to 2.x when I did the upgrade. After I did that...Things were
working well.

Of course now I'm looking at the teletubbish Bluecurve. It's solid
underneath and at least I have a terminal to run to when I get scared ;}
