Network Engineer

Duties and Responsibilities

As a member of the Network Engineering team the candidate will be
responsible for design, upgrade, and configuration of the company's
nationwide IP/ATM backbone network. This includes the design and
implementation of IP, ATM, and Frame Relay based network solutions,
including network access, network routing plans, network to network
interfaces, and public and private peering connections. The candidate will
also ensure operational readiness of network hardware and support systems,
and will provide technical support to network operations staff as required.

The candidate will also develop and document engineering rules for IP
interface configuration, network routing, and IP address management, as
well as for ATM/Frame Relay PVC and QoS assignments. The candidate will
work with other engineers and network planners to ensure proper utilization
of the IP and ATM transport infrastructure.

The candidate will provide technical support to marketing and sales staff
as required to ensure that the company continues to profitably supply
competitive services and meet customer demand.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Network operating experience with a regional/national carrier or ISP is
required.

Cisco CCNP certification is required, CCIE preferred. CISSP is desirable.

5+ years experience as a network engineer with experience in layers 1, 2,
and 3 of the OSI stack. Must have a strong knowledge of and hands-on
experience with wide-area IP networking protocols including TCP/IP, OSPF,
and BGP4. Experience with MPLS is desirable.

The candidate should also have experience in ATM and Frame Relay network
design and operation. Experience with the Alcatel 7470 multiservice
platform and the 5280 NMS is a plus. Experience operating Cisco routers
including the GSR is required. Experience with the Nortel Shasta BSN
aggregation router is desirable.

BS degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, or equivalent
years of experience, is required. Advanced technical degree is a plus.

Must have good written and oral communication skills.
