By setting up a root zone aren't you telling any who request that you
are a root server? Inside each zone file I use the "*" to designate the
SOA whichever domain that is, however, if I'm understanding the question
correctly, he wants all domains listed in the DNS tables to point at a
singular IP Address. (If I'm wrong someone get in here). If a DNS Server
has multiple zones listed on it, then each domain listed will have a
separate file containing an A record for that domain name which will
point to an IP Address, whether real or imagined. I know if my DNS
server changed IP addresses, it would take me about a week to check all
IP addresses were changed correctly, because I'd have to check each zone
file. I'm not getting what they mean by setting up a root zone, unless
you have an internal net? I'm trying to understand, help me:-)

Someone on a diffrent list pointed out the obvious:

"You can set up a root zone with a wildcard ("*") A record in it.

But be VERY careful that only your clients see this version of the root
zone. You don't want to be responsible for polluting the Internet DNS=20
(or even other nameservers under your control) with bogus root zone
data. "
