One of the things I like about Debians package system is the access to
packages or their mirror system. A package management tool is only as
good as the availability of packages.
Now I didn't mention this to tweak those RH sentimentalities :) but to
pass on an idea for having your very own local mirror, without a high
bandwidth connection. For example the i386 mirror for Debian woody is
about 4.5gb, a dvd-r, one sided, is 4.7gb. Seems to me having a mirror
on a dvd (copy to a hd) would be handy, I use one here, great for
installs also.
I am working on a Debian Official dvd and putting a mirror on a dvd.
This works well with Debian as the updates to stable are infrequent and
can be had with any type of connection.
My $.02 for today.
