Someplace like the Boys and Girls clubs might be able to use some Linux
machines in their computer labs.. Put openoffice or koffice on it for
kids to do homework, mozilla for internet (if they have a connection),
and a nice selection of games to get the kids interested in the first
place ;) Some training might be needed for the adults to know what to
do when kids can't get something working, but I'd be willing to bet the
kids would end up picking it up faster than the adults.. :)
And it wouldn't be something that would have to be a critical server or
workstation - the kids get to play around with something different than
microsoft or mac, and if it breaks, there's really no pressing need to
get someone to fix it right that second, but I'm sure someone in AKLUG
could volunteer when/if that happens and make it out to fix them up
sooner or later..
Not sure what other types of organizations like this are out there..
Campfire? I'm sure some of those out there with kids might know more
than I..
