You don't actually need to install RPM 4 to unpack RPM 4 packages.
The latest version of RPM 3 handles them just fine. If I'm not
mistaken, upgrading to the latest version of RPM 3 should be much
simpler than upgrading to RPM 4 (which was troublesome for me).
