xfstt and ttmkfdir are what i use. it's the x truetype font server.
install xfstt and ttmkfdir, copy your fonts from the windows machine,
put them in /usr/share/fonts/truetype, type a few simple commands and
you're all set. X does need to be restarted though...

the commands i are:

cd /usr/share/fonts/truetype
su -c "xfstt --sync"
xfstt &
su -c "/usr/X11R6/bin/xset fp+ unix/:7101"
ttmkfdir

both xfstt and ttmkfdir can be found on freshmeat. it worked for me on
my first try so i haven't had to do to much digging or troubleshooting.
let me know if you need any help...
