Read the log file in it's entirety, edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config file, try
to "startx", and repeat until you have a functioning Xfree86
configuration.

There are some configuration tools to do some of this for you, but i've
never had one of them fine-tune things exactly the way I want. Here is a
list of the X config tools that I can think of:

xf86cfg
xf86config
Xconfigurator (red hat specific)

These tools have a slim chance of generating a "functional" config file,
but you are better off editing the config file yourself IMO.
