A quick reply, anti-aliasing is for smoothing the look of fonts on
screen. It eliminates the jagged edges of screen fonts. In KDE, Control
Center, you can enable anti-aliasing. Anti-aliasing uses a different
font setup so it may be possible that the fonts for the taskbar were
unavailable, just a guess since I have never been able to get it working
satisfactorily on my box.
