Which Linux are you using? The reason I'm asking is that my 6.2 Red
Hat seems to forget where the secondary controller is from time to
time. It shows up as "drive not readable", and then after I shut down
the box change the drive from a master to slave then back again (on
the IDE bus) it finds everything and works like a champ until it
forgets again, then here we go again. Just an idea.

Subject: HD in critical condition

After being down for a few days and having a fan replaced, my
computer booted up only to tell me that the hard drive was no longer
recognised.

After testing other possibilities, I confirmed it's the hard drive's
problem. It won't even spin up. It is getting power, though,
because a green light flashes on the logic board. If that's the
case, could the electrical path be dropping the +12V power, but not
the +5V, somewhere on the board?

Can anyone suggest what might be done?
Thanks.
