The distro is redhat 6.1, I didn't have time to upgrade the machine so I
built a 2.4.10 kernel on it. The kernel works fine and I can see all of
the drives so I don't think that is the problem. The main reason for
upgrading is to get iptables on the machine. I HATE ipchains, it is one
of the lamest firewalls I have ever used.

Originally when I installed redhat 6.1 I had to jump though a lot of
hoops to make it work. I don't remember the details but I think I built
a custom patched kernel, booted the redhat installer, installed, copied
the kernel to the disk, ran lilo and reboot.

I guess I could have just used a different distro, but I stick with
redhat because I don't have time to learn all of the idiosyncrasies of
all the distributions. I know redhat well enough that I can work around
anything that it lacks or I don't like about it.

I didn't spec out the hardware and I don't care for ICP cards. I prefer
DPT cards in clone servers, but anymore it doesn't make sense to build
your own when you can get 1U dell boxes that work really well for under $3k.
